Why do many people put humans on a pedestal and assume we are the smartest creatures?

i heard from a friend (during an intense philosophical discussion) that dolphins were one of the most advanced creatures on earth, ahead of humans, and i honestly agree but everyone else ive asked or anything Ive seen on the internet disagrees saying that humans are obviously the most advanced, with all our civilization. but wouldn't that just make us less because and this greed and materialism sets us back right? and does anyone else know anything about the whole 46 and 2 chromosomes concept? if anyone understands please comment but if not please don't thanks :D
