PLANTING "BABY TREES" IN POTS?
I made a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation, and was sent 10 "baby trees" (their words, not mine) to plant. The problem is, I don't own a home right now and have nowhere safe to plant them in the ground. I live in upstate NY (where it's been flooding for the past 5 or 6 weeks), so the ground everywhere is completely saturated/flooded. Instead, I'm planning on growing them in pots for now until they get bigger. I'm usually horrible at growing plants in pots, so I'm just looking for some tips from those lucky enough to have a green thumb :) Like, what type of pots, good potting soil, if I use mulch or something on top, etc etc etc. I have no idea what kind of trees they are- I was sent a mix of trees that are native to the eastern US. Thanks in advance for the advice!
