When using lawn-thickener mix with dogs?

We are using a mix of seed, fertilizer and mulch to thicken out our front lawn. I know how to spread it and stuff like that but will it affect it if my dogs go on it? If I have to keep the dogs from going on it, for how long after spreading it and watering it must I keep them off of it?
