What are the tiny red bugs (tiny bloody smear when squished) on the baby bird found outside?

Bird mites. Hope you haven't exposed any household birds to them or visited friends with birds after handling that baby. Cover the cage with a white cloth at night and throw it in the washer first thing in the morning. The mites will go to the cloth at night.The cage must be kept very clean . you don't want chemicals with a baby bird. Mites are blood suckers and can get your baby very ill. The mites aren't interested in people but you may be able to feel them crawl on you. Very tiny tickle.
